CPDA participation in Sign-on Letter: Seed Treatment Treated Article Exemption Letter

CPDA was one of more than 25 commodity groups and industry trade associations who co-signed a letter to EPA Administrator Michael Regan this week asking him to deny a petition filed by environmental groups, which asks EPA to regulate treated seed on a seed-by-seed basis.  Under current law, treated articles, including seed are exempt from regulation.  Instead, crop protection products are evaluated and broadly labeled for seed treatments.  If EPA grants the petition, each seed treatment would be assessed separately and labeled accordingly.  Major acreage crops probably wouldn’t be affected, but minor crops would be hit hard as the data costs of labeling them as a separate use would exceed the returns.
