CPDA Urges Improved Process for MAHA Commission Following Flawed Report
- American agriculture has been a driving force for improved health through innovation and stewardship.
- CPDA and 256 other groups are urging the Trump administration to ensure future MAHA Commission work reflects that progress through a transparent, science-based process.
ARLINGTON, VA –The Council of Producers and Distributors of Agrotechnology (CPDA) joined 256 leading agricultural organizations in urging the Trump administration to ensure that future work of the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) Commission includes meaningful input from farmers, food producers, and agricultural stakeholders.
While CPDA supports the Commission’s stated goal of improving public health, the process behind its initial report lacked transparency, stakeholder engagement, and public comment. That lack of input led to numerous errors, misrepresentations, and flawed conclusions undermining confidence in the findings and raising serious concerns across the agriculture sector.
“Agriculture shares the Commission’s goal of a healthier America,” said Terry Kippley, President and CEO of CPDA. “But achieving that goal requires a process grounded in facts, sound science, and the real-world experience of the farmers and input providers who make safe, sustainable food production possible.”
American agriculture has a proven track record of innovation and stewardship. Since the 1940s, agricultural output has nearly tripled while using fewer inputs and preserving more land. Today’s farmers implement cutting-edge conservation practices, reduce environmental impacts, and ensure food remains safe, abundant, and affordable.
The MAHA Commission report fails to reflect that reality, citing studies that have been discredited or never existed and raise unfounded fears about food safety. Worse, it risks deterring healthy eating by casting doubt on the safety of fruits and vegetables, contradicting the Commission’s own public health objectives.
“CPDA’s members are proud of the technologies and tools they bring to American agriculture,” Kippley said. “We welcome the opportunity to engage directly with the Trump administration to improve the MAHA process and ensure future recommendations are grounded in science, not fear.”
